To adopt is a responsible and important decision, and if you have taken it you must be consequent with it. Remember that animals are living beings and that their physical and phychological needs must be fullfilled by you. Having a cat or dog involves a monthly cost in food and veterinary, daily excercise and companionship. If you adopt you must also remember that these dogs and cats have gone through abandonment, mistreat, neglection and rejection and that you have the opportunity to change their lives and make them have a good life quality, and also that you have the obligation of being responsible for them during their whole life.

Here we explain step by step everything you must do to adopt one of our cats and dogs:


1º- get in touch with us via e-mail. We try to answer every petition as soon as possible.


2º- Tell us which cat/dog have you liked and we will inform you of everything concerning him/her.


3º- Fill in the Adoption Questionaire: with this step we can get to know you better and value lots of things. It is important to read it carefully and answer with sincerity. After filling and sending it we will get in touch with you, so it's important for us that you fill in also the personal data blanks.


4º- After reading the questionaire we will get in touch as quickly as we can to start nailing down the adoption and answering any question that comes into your head about the animal you would like to adopt.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION YOU MUST KNOW WHEN ADOPTING ONE OF OUR CATS/DOGS:

* In what conditions do we give away our cats and dogs?:

-With the rabies vaccine (compulsory in Spanish and European territory). With all the anual vaccines (the Combinated vaccines Heptavalent or Polivalent , depending on the dog's age). Also, during winter we reccomend aplying the "Pneumodog" vaccine to avoid the fearful dogpound cough disease and/or influenza.

-Cats are given away with all the required vaccines against common and highly infectious diseases.

-Microchip: Every animal in our association has a chip as stated by law and in case it gets lost. The microchip inserted in puppies up to 7 months of age will remain under Pro-Setter's name until the dog is spayed/neutered. Once the surgery is done, the chip will be changed to the adoptant's name. (Please, if you have any question concerning this paragraph let us know and we will clarify any doubt)

In the case of adult dogs, the chip will stay under Pro-Setter's Association's name during the first month, then, it will be changed to the adoptant's name.

- Deparasitation: External (monthly spot-ons for flea and tick control, and from march to october our dogs wear Scalibur collars to prevent the mosquito that carries leishmaniasis). Internally deparasited with Drontal Plus.

- Spayed/Neutered: Dogs as well as cats, male adults as female adults, our animals are given away spayed/neutered to avoid future illnesses, unwanted litters and tranquility for both the animal and the adoptant. We must work all together to fight against the abandonment masification and the canine/feline overpopulation. In the case of puppies they will be given away with a future spaying/neutering compromise.

- Complete Analythics: From the start, every dog that is rescued by our association is tested of: "Ehrlichia", "Philaria", "Leishmaniasis", "Anaplasm" and "Borrelia". This procedure is important to discard such diseases and in case of being positive, we can start immediately with the suitable treatment. You will be able to learn about these illnesses and their treatment in the "Common diseases" Section of our web.

Puppies are tested of "Parvovirus" and "Coronavirus" if they show symptoms of these illnesses.

Why Spay/Neuter?

Spaying/Neutering is an important action we take to avouid unwanted litters, illegal breeding, abandonment masification and prostatic or mamary illnesses that appear on animals of certain age. You wouldn't imagine how many abandoned litters we find, we rescue pups from trash cans, river banks, fields, etc.
There are lots of them and only few survive if they are not rescued in time. Illegal breeding and selling is a booming business in our country even though it is not permited unless you are an acredited breeder.
Also many illnesses are prevented thanks to this surgery and it's a way of making the animal's life longer and better. And finally, taking this measure is good for both of you, as they have a more relaxed way of life and avoid the stress they suffer in heat times and in their daily behaviour. Every adoptant will help with the expenses of the preparation of the adopted animal, so in that way you can contribute with our association as we lack of any subsidy or help from the Institutions.

The adoption fees cover the veterinary expenses spent during the preparation of the animal:

Adult males: Total ammount to pay - 150 euros (includes everything mentioned in the above paragraphs "In what conditions do we give away our cats and dogs?")

Adult Females: Total ammount to pay - 200 euros (includes everything mentioned in the above paragraphs "In what conditions do we give away our cats and dogs?")

Puppies: Total ammount to pay- 120 euros (Includes all the vaccines required at his/her age, microchip, external and internal deparasitation) plus a little colaboration for the maintenance expenses. Does not include the spaying/neutering surgery. (Consult us for any further question about this)

What should I do when my puppy reaches the age for neutering/spaying?

For those people who adopt in the Region of Murcia we give the possibility of spaying/neutering your adopted cat or dog in our Veterinary Clinic of Molina del Segura. Our association collaborates with the surgery so it is less expensive: Female spaying 130 euros and male neutering 60 euros. It is a considerable discount as normaly veterinaries charge near 200 for males and over 200 in case of females (at least in the Region of Murcia).


If you are not from Murcia, but you are not too far away, you' are also welcome to use our Clinic for the surgery, as mentioned before.

For those who life far from Murcia, Pro-Setter Spain will try to contact with other Animal Rescue Associations near your region and ask them if they can find an economic clinic and if they can help you with the surgery fees. (All this only involve adopted puppies, as adults always leave our shelter spayed or neutered)


7º- Every of our cats and dogs are sent to their new homes through a reliable transport service specialized in animals. We always make use of secure, trustable, animal-friendly and comfortable transport companies, where cats and dogs travel with people who are animal lovers, make stops for taking walks and have all their needs fulfilled during the trip.

Puppies (from 2 to 8 months old) must be picked up in person unless a company of the above mentioned is hired. MRW is excluded from those companies.

Adults are also sent with those companies, but is preferable that, if the possibility exists, you come in person to our shelter or foster home to pick yur animal up, as it's better for him/her and it will be for both your first contact. (MRW is excluded from those companies)

8 - An ocular pre-tracing will be done of the house and family in order to verify that the conditions are good for the animal. It's a process where we or one of our volunteers/collaborators makes you a visit, with absolute correction and discretion, in order to speak with you in person and to learn if it's the proper environment for a dog or cat.


If all the steps required are correct and you are sure to adopt an animal, you will be able to enjoy together for the rest of his/her life and give him/her the opportunity nobody wanted to give before!
