RESCUING A STAR


Once upon a time there was a wise man who used to write in a cabin near the beach. He had the habit of taking a walk before starting his daily work.

One day, as he was walking along the shore, he spotted far away a human shape that moved like a dancer. He smiled at himself thinking it was someone who danced to greet the new day. He quickened his step and approached to the figure. He saw that it was a young man and that the man was not dancing. Instead, he was bending to catch something from the sand and then tossing it swiftly into the water. As the wise man got nearer the young man, he greeted him:

- Good morning. What are you doing?

The youngster stopped what he was doing, turned to the man and answered:

- I'm throwing starfish back to the ocean.

- And may I ask you why are you throwing starfish to the ocean?

The young man answered:

- Last night the storm left thousands of starfish on the sand, and today the sun will fall fiercely on them and the tide is low, so if I do not throw them bask to the water, they'll die.

- But young boy - replied the old wise one - don't you see that there are hundreds of miles of sand, and on it thousands of starfish dying....Do you really believe that all your efforts have any sense?

The young man listened to the other respectfully, then he bended, picked up another starfish, threw it to the water, and answered:

- For that one starfish, it did had sense.

The answer surprised the old man. He felt annoyed, did not know what else to say, and went back to his cabin to write.
During the whole day, while he was writing, the image of tha young man haunted him. He tried to ignore it, but couldn't.  Finally, late that afternoon, he realized that he, the scientific, the wise one, had missed the essence of the action of that young man. The young man had chosen not to be a mere observer of the Universe and let it pass through his eyes. He had chosen to participate actively and leave his trace in it.
The wise man felt ashamed of himself and went to sleep, worried.

The next morning he woke up knowing he had to do something. He dressed up, went to the beach, found the young man and spent all the morning with him tossing starfish to the ocean.

..I can do nothing to solve the grief in the world, but I can do a lot to help inside the bit of world in which I live.

Maybe, before telling who we are, we should say, why we are?

PRO-SETTER Spain borns as Murcia Adopt! Pro-Setter in the beginings of 2009.

This happens because of Lynda (you can see here in the picture in the right side)
Lynda was a hound from an industrial area, as hundreds in this country..

This charity was founded thanks to her. This hound was five years in the streets and she showed us how cruel live could be with hunting dog breeds if they get to the wrong hands. Lynda lost any sort of confidence to humans and her body showed the signs of abandon and mistreat, but still there was no evil in her behaviour.

She had an eye left, starving and watched how her puppies on countless litters were distributed as if it was a living beings market.

Lynda ever get closed to nobody, trusted nobody, so what we had left was helping her the most with the resignation of accepting her live couldn't be saved...

Lynda showed us the path and we owe her for that. She tought us that founding a dog rescue association was not something to be done with money in the future, but with lots of love in the present.

Lynda could never be saved from that place, we weren't able to show her the way of love and respect because she never let us get closer than a meter, althought we did our best to catch her...

Today, Lynda rests in our heart and memories in the greatest outrage. We suffered every minute for her, but fate wanted her to leave this world without knowing the meaning of true love and happiness that our little sweet beloved Lynda deserved so much.

So now... about us!

PRO-SETTER Spain, with main headquarters in Murcia, is a non profit animal welfare association whose main purposes are rescueing, healing, rehabilitating and later search of an adoption to Setters and other breeds used for hunting, that without justification end in situation of helplessness.

Although we focus on hunting breeds, whether pure or crossbred, we try helping the most we can, even sometimes it's not easy when not enough support or funds are found... something quite common in charities all along Spain.

Our path is tough, sad and unfair but this won't discourage us from building a place where they are able to dream and learn how to love people and other animals. Our reward is to find them a true home where love and care are a must. Our reward is to see them happy after meeting them so sad and lost in the way.

But...why Setters and hunting dog breeds?

Hunting is one of the most important reasons for abandonment in Spain.

Hung in trees, chained over their own faeces with no food or water, beaten or left to their fate. This is the sad end that so many dogs, counted by thousands, suffer when the season is over.

Furthermore, after a long period of decadence and suffering, they die starving, under a car's wheels, murdered at dogpounds or overwhelmed by sadness...

To this people, hunting dogs are mere tools. Use and dump tools.It might be because they don't have good hunting skills, or they don't have the desirable age anymore, or have suffered an accident or an illness.

That's why we make an appeal, an appeal for you to join this project among us so, all together, are able to show society that this dogs are excellent pets. They are animals with the right of being treated with self-respect and fairness as any living being.

THEY HAVE THE RIGHT OF LIFE.

We want Setters, Bretons, Bracos, Pointers, Hounds, Griffons and Bloodhounds and their crossbred to be recognized as pets, as already happened to other breeds used for hunting as Cockers, Labradors and Retrievers.

Beacuse they are not dogs for hunting, they are dogs for company and hunting don't make a difference with breeds towards mistreat and abandonment!

While some dream about it... WE BELIEVE IT!
